Before Rama

Doha 29: Before Rama

Sugriva guesses the good news from the complaint; the army comes before Rama and Lakshman.

Verse 29.1

jauṁ na hoti sītā sudhi pāī madhubana ke phala sakahiṁ ki khāī ehi bidhi mana bichāra kara rājā āi gae kapi sahita samājā

Translation

"If they had not found news of Sita, would they dare eat the fruit of the Madhuvan?" As the king was thinking this, the monkeys arrived with the whole company.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

Sugriva reads the complaint cleverly: only monkeys with good news would dare raid his garden.

Verse 29.2

āi sabanhi nāvā pada sīsā mileu sabanhi ati prema kapīsā pūm̐chhī kusala kusala pada dekhī rāma kṛipām̐ bhā kāju biseṣhī

Translation

They all came and bowed their heads at his feet, and the king of the monkeys embraced them all with great love. He asked how they were: "Seeing your feet, we are well. By Rama's grace the work has been done especially well."

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

nātha kāju kīnheu hanumānā rākhe sakala kapinha ke prānā suni sugrīva bahuri tehi mileū kapinha sahita raghupati pahiṁ chaleū

Translation

"Master, Hanuman did the work and saved the lives of all the monkeys." Hearing this, Sugriva embraced him again and set off with the monkeys to Raghupati.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

rāma kapinha jaba āvata dekhā kiem̐ kāju mana haraṣha biseṣhā phaṭika silā baiṭhe dvau bhāī pare sakala kapi charananhi jāī

Translation

When Rama saw the monkeys coming, having done the work, his heart was especially glad. The two brothers were sitting on a crystal rock, and all the monkeys went and fell at their feet.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

prīti sahita saba bheṁṭe raghupati karunā puṁja pūchhī kusala nātha aba kusala dekhi pada kaṁja

Translation

Raghupati, the mass of compassion, embraced them all lovingly and asked how they were. "Master, we are well now that we have seen your lotus feet."

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
