Durga Saptashati — Chapter 3, Verse 35

Mahishasura Vadha

ननर्द चासुरः सोऽपि बलवीर्यमदोद्धतः । विषाणाभ्यां च चिक्षेप चण्डिकां प्रति भूधरान् ॥ ३५ ॥

nanarda chāsuraḥ so’pi balavīryamadoddhataḥ viṣhāṇābhyāṁ cha chikṣhepa chaṇḍikāṁ prati bhūdharān

Translation

And the asura too, drunk with pride in his strength and valour, roared and hurled mountains at Chandika with his horns.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

और वह असुर भी बल और पराक्रम के मद से उन्मत्त होकर गर्जने लगा और सींगों से चण्डिका पर पर्वत फेंकने लगा।

Commentary

Two kinds of intoxication stand side by side: the Devi's divine joy and the demon's pride (mada).
