Durga Saptashati — Chapter 2, Verse 62

Mahishasura Sainya Vadha

एकबाह्वक्षिचरणाः केचिद्देव्या द्विधा कृताः । छिन्नेऽपि चान्ये शिरसि पतिताः पुनरुत्थिताः ॥ ६२ ॥

ekabāhvakṣhicharaṇāḥ kechiddevyā dvidhā kṛitāḥ chhinne’pi chānye śhirasi patitāḥ punarutthitāḥ

Translation

Some were split in two by the Devi, with one arm, one eye and one leg each; others, though their heads were cut off, fell and rose again.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

कुछ को देवी ने एक बाँह, एक नेत्र और एक पैर वाले दो टुकड़ों में चीर दिया; और कुछ सिर कटने पर भी गिरकर फिर उठ खड़े हुए।

Commentary

The headless rising again shows the stubbornness of the demonic: even defeated, it keeps fighting.
