Durga Saptashati — Chapter 1, Verse 81

Madhu-Kaitabha Vadha

śhaṅkhinī chāpinī bāṇabhuśhuṇḍīparighāyudhā saumyā saumyatarāśheṣhasaumyebhyastvatisundarī

Translation

the conch, the bow, the arrow, the bhushundi and the iron club. You are gentle, more gentle than the gentle, supremely beautiful above all gentle things,

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

Right after the weapons, the hymn calls her saumyatara, "gentler than the gentle." Fierce and gentle are two faces of one reality, a theme that returns in the Saptashati again and again.
