Durga Saptashati — Chapter 9, Verse 16

Nishumbha Vadha

ततः परशुहस्तं तमायान्तं दैत्यपुङ्गवम् । आहत्य देवी बाणौघैरपातयत भूतले ॥ १६ ॥

tataḥ paraśhuhastaṁ tamāyāntaṁ daityapuṅgavam āhatya devī bāṇaughairapātayata bhūtale

Translation

Then, as that bull among daityas came at her with an axe in hand, the Devi struck him with volleys of arrows and felled him to the ground.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

तब फरसा हाथ में लेकर आते उस दैत्यश्रेष्ठ को देवी ने बाणों के समूह से घायल करके धरती पर गिरा दिया।

Commentary

Nishumbha falls, stunned, but not yet dead.
