Durga Saptashati — Chapter 5, Verse 88

Devi's Dialogue with the Messenger

tasyāṁ vinirgatāyāṁ tu kṛiṣhṇābhūtsāpi pārvatī kāliketi samākhyātā himāchalakṛitāśhrayā

Translation

When she had come out, Parvati herself became dark, and dwelling on the Himalaya, she became known as Kalika.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

One goddess becomes two: the fair Kaushiki who will fight, and the dark Kalika. It is one explanation of how Parvati is both Gauri (fair) and Kali (dark).
