सा क्षिप्त्वा तस्य वै पाशं तं बबन्ध महासुरम् । तत्याज माहिषं रूपं सोऽपि बद्धो महामृधे ॥ २९ ॥
sā kṣhiptvā tasya vai pāśhaṁ taṁ babandha mahāsuram tatyāja māhiṣhaṁ rūpaṁ so’pi baddho mahāmṛidhe
Translation
She threw her noose over him and bound the great asura. Bound in that great battle, he gave up his buffalo form.

उन्होंने पाश फेंककर उस महादैत्य को बाँध लिया। उस महासंग्राम में बँधकर उसने भैंसे का रूप त्याग दिया।
Commentary
Verses 29–33 describe Mahisha's shape-shifting: buffalo, lion, man, elephant and buffalo again. The ego keeps changing its disguise to escape.
