Durga Saptashati — Chapter 2, Verse 23

Mahishasura Sainya Vadha

kāladaṇḍādyamo daṇḍaṁ pāśhaṁ chāmbupatirdadau prajāpatiśhchākṣhamālāṁ dadau brahmā kamaṇḍalum

Translation

Yama gave her a staff from his staff of death; Varuna, lord of waters, a noose; Prajapati a rosary; and Brahma a water-pot.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

The rosary and water-pot are gifts of spiritual life, not war. The Devi carries both: the weapons of battle and the tools of prayer.
