भवकाले नृणां सैव लक्ष्मीर्वृद्धिप्रदा गृहे । सैवाभावे तथाऽलक्ष्मीर्विनाशायोपजायते ॥ ४० ॥
bhavakāle nṛiṇāṁ saiva lakṣhmīrvṛiddhipradā gṛihe saivābhāve tathā’lakṣhmīrvināśhāyopajāyate
Translation
In times of prosperity she is Lakshmi in people's homes, granting growth; and in times of want she becomes Alakshmi, bringing ruin.

मनुष्यों के अभ्युदय के समय वे ही घर में लक्ष्मी के रूप में स्थित होकर उन्नति देती हैं, और वे ही अभाव के समय दरिद्रता (अलक्ष्मी) बनकर विनाश का कारण होती हैं।
