Durga Saptashati — Chapter 1, Verse 49

Madhu-Kaitabha Vadha

केचिद्दिवा तथा रात्रौ प्राणिनस्तुल्यदृष्टयः । ज्ञानिनो मनुजाः सत्यं किं तु ते न हि केवलम् ॥ ४९ ॥

kechiddivā tathā rātrau prāṇinastulyadṛiṣhṭayaḥ jñānino manujāḥ satyaṁ kiṁ tu te na hi kevalam

Translation

and some see equally well by day and night. Humans do have understanding, it is true, but they are not the only ones.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

और कुछ प्राणी दिन और रात दोनों में समान रूप से देखते हैं। यह सच है कि मनुष्य समझदार होते हैं, पर केवल वही नहीं।

Commentary

Medhas makes a humbling point: practical intelligence is not what sets humans apart. That leads to his real argument.
