Durga Saptashati — Chapter 1, Verse 41

Madhu-Kaitabha Vadha

duḥkhāya yanme manasaḥ svachittāyattatāṁ vinā mamatvaṁ gatarājyasya rājyāṅgeṣhvakhileṣhvapi

Translation

It pains my mind, because my mind is not under my control: though my kingdom is lost, I still feel 'mine' toward it and all its parts.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

Suratha names the real problem: not the loss itself, but that his mind is not his own (svachittayattatam vina). The pain comes from mamatva, the feeling of "mine," outliving the thing itself.
