Translation
Long ago, in the Svarochisha manvantara, there was a king named Suratha, born in the line of Chaitra, who ruled the whole earth.

पूर्वकाल में स्वारोचिष मन्वन्तर में चैत्रवंश में उत्पन्न सुरथ नाम के एक राजा थे, जिनका सम्पूर्ण भूमण्डल पर राज्य था।
Commentary
King Suratha, whose name means "having a good chariot," is the listener whose life frames the whole Saptashati. In a later age he will be reborn as Savarni, the eighth Manu (13.22–23, 13.28–29).
