Durga Saptashati — Chapter 9, Verse 36

Nishumbha Vadha

तस्य निष्क्रामतो देवी प्रहस्य स्वनवत्ततः । शिरश्चिच्छेद खड्गेन ततोऽसावपतद्भुवि ॥ ३६ ॥

tasya niṣhkrāmato devī prahasya svanavattataḥ śhiraśhchichchheda khaḍgena tato’sāvapatadbhuvi

Translation

As he was coming out, the Devi laughed aloud and cut off his head with her sword, and he fell to the ground.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

उस निकलते पुरुष को देखकर देवी ठठाकर हँस पड़ीं और खड्ग से उसका सिर काट डाला, और वह पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा।

Commentary

The Devi laughs even as she slays: her confidence never wavers. Nishumbha is dead.
