Durga Saptashati — Chapter 1, Verse 90

Madhu-Kaitabha Vadha

विष्णोः प्रबोधनार्थाय निहन्तुं मधुकैटभौ । नेत्रास्यनासिकाबाहुहृदयेभ्यस्तथोरसः ॥ ९० ॥

viṣhṇoḥ prabodhanārthāya nihantuṁ madhukaiṭabhau netrāsyanāsikābāhuhṛidayebhyastathorasaḥ

Translation

in order to wake Vishnu and slay Madhu and Kaitabha, came out of his eyes, mouth, nose, arms, heart and chest,

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

विष्णु को जगाने और मधु-कैटभ को मारने के लिए, उनके नेत्र, मुख, नासिका, भुजाओं, हृदय और वक्षःस्थल से निकलकर

Commentary

A vivid image: sleep physically leaves Vishnu's body, part by part. The Devi who was holding him now steps out.
