There, his mind pulled by attachment, he began to brood: "That city my forefathers ruled before me is now lost to me.

Mamatva, "the sense of mine," is the key word of this chapter. Verses 12–16 let us hear Suratha's anxious thoughts directly, and they sound very familiar. Gita Press notes a variant reading here, mamatvakrishta-manasah, with the same meaning.
