Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 13, Verse 19

Kshetra Kshetrajna Vibhaga Yoga

prakṛitiṁ puruṣhaṁ chaiva viddhy anādī ubhāv api vikārānśh cha guṇānśh chaiva viddhi prakṛiti-sambhavān

Translation

Know that both prakriti (nature) and purusha (the soul) are without beginning, and know that all changes and the gunas are born of prakriti.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

The second half of the chapter uses a new pair of terms: prakriti (nature, matter) and purusha (the conscious self). Both are anadi, "beginningless." Neither was created by the other. Everything that changes, including the three gunas, belongs to nature.
