About
Assam's Sanskrit university at Nalbari, set up in 2011 and named after Kumar Bhaskar Varma, the 7th-century king under whom Vedic culture and Sanskrit learning flourished in Assam. It teaches Sanskrit Sahitya, Vyakarana and Jyotish, and runs certificate courses in Karmakanda, Sasvar Vedapath, Dharmashastra and Yogic Science.

The university was set up by a Government of Assam notification dated 24 May 2011 under the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University Act, 2011, as a teaching, affiliating, research and residential university at Nalbari, the district headquarters.
The name
Kumar Bhaskar Varma, a great 7th-century monarch of Assam, was a patron of Sanskrit studies, and Vedic culture and Sanskrit learning flourished in Assam during his reign. The campus is being developed on about 100 bighas of land at Namati village in Nalbari district.
