श्रीभगवानुवाच । अनाश्रितः कर्मफलं कार्यं कर्म करोति यः । स संन्यासी च योगी च न निरग्निर्न चाक्रियः ॥ १ ॥
śhrī bhagavān uvācha anāśhritaḥ karma-phalaṁ kāryaṁ karma karoti yaḥ sa sannyāsī cha yogī cha na niragnir na chākriyaḥ
Translation
The Blessed Lord said: One who does the work that ought to be done without depending on its fruit is a renunciate and a yogi — not one who merely gives up the sacred fire or all activity.

श्रीभगवान बोले: जो पुरुष कर्मफल का आश्रय न लेकर करने योग्य कर्म करता है, वही संन्यासी और योगी है; केवल अग्नि का त्याग करने वाला या केवल क्रियाओं का त्याग करने वाला संन्यासी नहीं है।
Commentary
Chapter 6 opens by summing up chapters 3–5: a true sannyasi is not someone who has stopped lighting the ritual fire (niragniḥ) or stopped working (akriyaḥ), but someone who works without depending on results.
