तद्विद्धि प्रणिपातेन परिप्रश्नेन सेवया । उपदेक्ष्यन्ति ते ज्ञानं ज्ञानिनस्तत्त्वदर्शिनः ॥ ३४ ॥
tad viddhi praṇipātena paripraśhnena sevayā upadekṣhyanti te jñānaṁ jñāninas tattva-darśhinaḥ
Translation
Learn that by humble reverence, by sincere questioning, and by service. The wise who have seen the truth will teach you that knowledge.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
उस ज्ञान को तुम तत्त्वदर्शी ज्ञानियों के पास जाकर समझो — उन्हें दंडवत् प्रणाम करने से, उनकी सेवा करने से और निष्कपट भाव से प्रश्न करने से वे तुम्हें उस ज्ञान का उपदेश देंगे।
Commentary
The classic verse on approaching a guru. Three qualities are needed in the student: praṇipāta (humility), paripraśhna (genuine inquiry, not argument) and sevā (service). And the teacher must be a tattva-darśhī — one who has seen the truth, not just read about it.
