उत्सीदेयुरिमे लोका न कुर्यां कर्म चेदहम् । सङ्करस्य च कर्ता स्यामुपहन्यामिमाः प्रजाः ॥ २४ ॥
utsīdeyur ime lokā na kuryāṁ karma ched aham sankarasya cha kartā syām upahanyām imāḥ prajāḥ
Translation
If I did not act, these worlds would fall into ruin; I would be the cause of confusion and would destroy these people.

यदि मैं कर्म न करूँ तो ये सब लोक नष्ट हो जाएँ, और मैं अव्यवस्था (संकरता) का कारण बनूँ तथा इस सारी प्रजा का नाश करने वाला बनूँ।
Commentary
The order of the world itself depends on the Divine continuing to act. Krishna echoes Arjun's own worry about social confusion (sankara, 1.41–42), but turns it around: disorder comes from abandoning duty, not from doing it.
