विषया विनिवर्तन्ते निराहारस्य देहिनः । रसवर्जं रसोऽप्यस्य परं दृष्ट्वा निवर्तते ॥ ५९ ॥
viṣhayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehinaḥ rasa-varjaṁ raso ’pyasya paraṁ dṛiṣhṭvā nivartate
Translation
Sense objects fall away from one who abstains from them, but the taste for them remains; even that taste falls away once the Supreme is seen.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
विषयों को ग्रहण न करने वाले देहधारी से विषय तो हट जाते हैं, पर उनका रस (लालसा) बना रहता है; परम तत्त्व का दर्शन होने पर वह रस भी मिट जाता है।
Commentary
An honest and psychologically sharp verse. Fasting or abstinence removes the object, but not the longing for it. Only a higher experience — seeing the Supreme — dissolves the inner craving. This is why the Gita pairs discipline with devotion and knowledge rather than relying on willpower alone.
