Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 2, Verse 26

atha chainaṁ nitya-jātaṁ nityaṁ vā manyase mṛitam tathāpi tvaṁ mahā-bāho naivaṁ śhochitum arhasi

Translation

And even if you think of it as constantly being born and constantly dying, even then, O mighty-armed one, you should not grieve like this.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

A clever teaching move. Krishna says: even if you don't accept what I have said about the eternal self — even if you hold a materialist view — your grief still makes no sense. He meets Arjun on every possible ground, which is part of what makes the Gita persuasive rather than simply authoritative.
