नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः । उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः ॥ १६ ॥
nāsato vidyate bhāvo nābhāvo vidyate sataḥ ubhayorapi dṛiṣhṭo ’nta stvanayos tattva-darśhibhiḥ
Translation
The unreal has no being, and the real never ceases to be. The seers of truth have seen the final conclusion about both.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
असत् (अनित्य) की सत्ता नहीं है और सत् (नित्य) का अभाव नहीं है। तत्त्वदर्शी पुरुषों ने इन दोनों का निष्कर्ष देख लिया है।
Commentary
One of the most philosophical verses in the Gita. Asat is that which changes and passes — the body, sensations, circumstances; sat is that which always is — the self. Vedanta schools read this verse in different ways, but all agree on its practical point: don't mistake the passing for the permanent.
