Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 17, Verse 9

Shraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga

kaṭv-amla-lavaṇāty-uṣhṇa-tīkṣhṇa-rūkṣha-vidāhinaḥ āhārā rājasasyeṣhṭā duḥkha-śhokāmaya-pradāḥ

Translation

Foods that are bitter, sour, salty, very hot, pungent, dry and burning are liked by the rajasic; they cause pain, grief and disease.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

Rajasic food is extreme: too sour, too salty, too spicy, too hot. The prefix ati, "too much," applies to the whole list. Such food stimulates the senses and restlessness, and its results are pain, grief and illness. The point is balance, not banning flavours.
