Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 17, Verse 10

Shraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga

yāta-yāmaṁ gata-rasaṁ pūti paryuṣhitaṁ cha yat uchchhiṣhṭam api chāmedhyaṁ bhojanaṁ tāmasa-priyam

Translation

Food that is stale, tasteless, putrid, left overnight, left over by others and impure is dear to the tamasic.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

Tamasic food has lost its life: stale (yata-yama, literally "a watch of three hours gone"), flavourless, spoiled, kept overnight, or left over by others. It makes one heavy and dull. Many traditions take amedhya, "impure," to include meat and intoxicants, though the verse itself does not list them.
