Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 1, Verse 47

सञ्जय उवाच । एवमुक्त्वार्जुनः सङ्ख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत् । विसृज्य सशरं चापं शोकसंविग्नमानसः ॥ ४७ ॥

sañjaya uvācha evam uktvārjunaḥ saṅkhye rathopastha upāviśhat visṛijya sa-śharaṁ chāpaṁ śhoka-saṁvigna-mānasaḥ

Translation

Sanjay said: Having spoken thus on the battlefield, Arjun cast aside his bow and arrows and sank down on the seat of his chariot, his mind overwhelmed with sorrow.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

संजय बोले: रणभूमि में ऐसा कहकर शोक से व्याकुल मन वाले अर्जुन बाण सहित धनुष त्यागकर रथ के आसन पर बैठ गए।

Commentary

The chapter ends in stillness. The great archer who raised his bow in verse 20 now puts it down and sits. This is why the chapter is called Arjuna Vishada Yoga, "the yoga of Arjun's despair": the Gita counts even this collapse as part of the path, because only a person who has reached the end of their own answers is ready to truly listen. Krishna's teaching begins in chapter 2.
