Translation
Sanjay said: To Arjun, thus overcome with pity, his eyes brimming and troubled with tears, sunk in despair, Madhusudan spoke these words.

संजय बोले: इस प्रकार करुणा से घिरे, आँसुओं से भरे व्याकुल नेत्रों वाले और विषाद करते हुए अर्जुन से मधुसूदन ने यह वचन कहा।
Commentary
Chapter 2 opens exactly where chapter 1 ended: Arjun in tears on the floor of his chariot. Sanjay again uses the word kṛipayāviṣhṭam — "seized by pity" — making clear that this is an emotion that has taken hold of Arjun, not a considered choice. Krishna, the "slayer of Madhu," is about to begin slaying a different kind of enemy: confusion.
