na kāṅkṣhe vijayaṁ kṛiṣhṇa na cha rājyaṁ sukhāni cha kiṁ no rājyena govinda kiṁ bhogair jīvitena vā
Translation
I do not want victory, O Krishna, nor kingdom nor pleasures. What use to us is a kingdom, O Govind — or enjoyment, or even life itself?

हे कृष्ण! मैं न विजय चाहता हूँ, न राज्य, न सुख। हे गोविन्द! हमें ऐसे राज्य से, भोगों से, या जीवन से भी क्या प्रयोजन?
Commentary
This sounds like renunciation, and some readers take it at face value. But the Gita will show that Arjun's detachment here comes from grief, not wisdom — he gives up the kingdom because he is overwhelmed, not because he has seen beyond it. Real renunciation, Krishna will teach, is inner and does not mean abandoning one's duty.
