tasya sañjanayan harṣhaṁ kuru-vṛiddhaḥ pitāmahaḥ siṁha-nādaṁ vinadyochchaiḥ śhaṅkhaṁ dadhmau pratāpavān
Translation
Then the mighty grandsire Bhishma, eldest of the Kurus, roared like a lion and blew his conch loudly, filling Duryodhan with joy.

तब कुरुवंश के वयोवृद्ध, प्रतापी पितामह भीष्म ने दुर्योधन को हर्षित करते हुए सिंह के समान गर्जना करके ऊँचे स्वर में अपना शंख बजाया।
Commentary
Bhishma understood his grandnephew's anxiety and answered it the only way a warrior could — with a lion's roar and a conch blast. It is an act of kindness toward a troubled boy as much as a signal of war. But note that Bhishma's conch gives joy only to Duryodhan; it does not promise victory.
