So all of you, holding your assigned positions at every point of entry, must above all protect Bhishma.

अतः आप सब अपने-अपने मोर्चों पर यथास्थान डटे रहकर सब ओर से भीष्म पितामह की ही रक्षा करें।
Commentary
Duryodhan's strategy rests on Bhishma, who had a boon to choose the moment of his death and could not easily be defeated. But Bhishma had also vowed not to fight Shikhandi, and the Kauravas knew it — hence the anxious order that everyone guard the commander. The irony is that the grandsire meant to protect them now needs protecting himself.
