श्रीभगवानुवाच । अक्षरं ब्रह्म परमं स्वभावोऽध्यात्ममुच्यते । भूतभावोद्भवकरो विसर्गः कर्मसञ्ज्ञितः ॥ ३ ॥
śhrī bhagavān uvācha akṣharaṁ brahma paramaṁ svabhāvo ’dhyātmam uchyate bhūta-bhāvodbhava-karo visargaḥ karma-sanjñitaḥ
Translation
The Blessed Lord said: Brahman is the imperishable Supreme; one's own essential nature is called adhyatma; and the creative offering that brings beings into existence is called karma.

श्रीभगवान बोले: परम अक्षर (अविनाशी) ब्रह्म है; अपना स्वरूप (जीवात्मा) अध्यात्म कहलाता है; और भूतों के भाव को उत्पन्न करने वाला त्याग (विसर्ग) कर्म कहलाता है।
Commentary
Krishna answers briefly. Brahman is akṣhara — that which never decays. Adhyātma is the individual self. Karma here means the creative force (visarga) that brings beings into being.
