ये चैव सात्त्विका भावा राजसास्तामसाश्च ये । मत्त एवेति तान्विद्धि न त्वहं तेषु ते मयि ॥ १२ ॥
ye chaiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasās tāmasāśh cha ye matta eveti tān viddhi na tvahaṁ teṣhu te mayi
Translation
Know that whatever states of being there are — sattvic, rajasic or tamasic — they come from me alone; yet I am not in them, they are in me.

जो भी सात्त्विक, राजस और तामस भाव हैं, उन सबको तुम मुझसे ही उत्पन्न होने वाले जानो; परंतु मैं उनमें नहीं हूँ, वे मुझमें हैं।
Commentary
A subtle point: the three gunas depend on God, but God does not depend on them. As the sky contains clouds without being changed by them, God contains all qualities without being bound by any.
