taṁ vidyād duḥkha-sanyoga-viyogaṁ yogasaṅjñitam sa niśhchayena yoktavyo yogo ’nirviṇṇa-chetasā

Translation

— know that to be yoga: the disconnection from union with sorrow. This yoga should be practised with determination and an undiscouraged mind.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

— जो दुख रूप संसार के संयोग से रहित है, उसी को योग नाम से जानना चाहिए। वह योग न उकताए हुए (उत्साही) चित्त से निश्चयपूर्वक करना चाहिए।

Commentary

A brilliant definition: yoga is duḥkha-saṁyoga-viyoga — "disunion from union with sorrow." And it must be practised anirviṇṇa-chetasā, with a mind that does not lose heart. Persistence without discouragement is the key.
