श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात् । स्वधर्मे निधनं श्रेयः परधर्मो भयावहः ॥ ३५ ॥
śhreyān swa-dharmo viguṇaḥ para-dharmāt sv-anuṣhṭhitāt swa-dharme nidhanaṁ śhreyaḥ para-dharmo bhayāvahaḥ
Translation
Better is one's own duty, though imperfectly done, than another's duty well performed. Better is death in one's own duty; another's duty is full of danger.

अच्छी प्रकार आचरण किए गए दूसरे के धर्म से गुण-रहित भी अपना धर्म श्रेष्ठ है। अपने धर्म में मरना भी कल्याणकारी है; दूसरे का धर्म भय देने वाला है।
Commentary
One of the Gita's most quoted teachings on svadharma. Arjun had been tempted to adopt a renunciate's path that does not suit him. Krishna says: be true to your own nature and role, even imperfectly, rather than imitating someone else's path.
