यस्त्वात्मरतिरेव स्यादात्मतृप्तश्च मानवः । आत्मन्येव च सन्तुष्टस्तस्य कार्यं न विद्यते ॥ १७ ॥
yas tvātma-ratir eva syād ātma-tṛiptaśh cha mānavaḥ ātmanyeva cha santuṣhṭas tasya kāryaṁ na vidyate
Translation
But for one who delights only in the self, is satisfied in the self and content in the self alone, there is no duty left to do.

परंतु जो मनुष्य आत्मा में ही रमण करने वाला, आत्मा में ही तृप्त और आत्मा में ही संतुष्ट है, उसके लिए कोई कर्तव्य शेष नहीं रहता।
Commentary
Krishna acknowledges an exception: the fully realised person has no personal need to fulfil through action. This is not a loophole for Arjun, who is clearly not in that state; and even such a person, Krishna will say, still acts for the world's sake.
