इष्टान्भोगान्हि वो देवा दास्यन्ते यज्ञभाविताः । तैर्दत्तानप्रदायैभ्यो यो भुङ्क्ते स्तेन एव सः ॥ १२ ॥
iṣhṭān bhogān hi vo devā dāsyante yajña-bhāvitāḥ tair dattān apradāyaibhyo yo bhuṅkte stena eva saḥ
Translation
Pleased by yajna, the gods will give you the enjoyments you desire. But one who enjoys their gifts without offering anything to them in return is nothing but a thief.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
यज्ञ से प्रसन्न हुए देवता तुम्हें इच्छित भोग देंगे। परंतु जो उनके दिए हुए भोगों को उन्हें अर्पित किए बिना स्वयं भोगता है, वह चोर ही है।
Commentary
A strong word: stena, thief. Whoever takes from the world — food, air, water, the labour of others — and gives nothing back is living on stolen goods. Gratitude and contribution are not optional extras but part of dharma.
