या निशा सर्वभूतानां तस्यां जागर्ति संयमी । यस्यां जाग्रति भूतानि सा निशा पश्यतो मुनेः ॥ ६९ ॥
yā niśhā sarva-bhūtānāṁ tasyāṁ jāgarti sanyamī yasyāṁ jāgrati bhūtāni sā niśhā paśhyato muneḥ
Translation
What is night for all beings, in that the self-controlled one is awake; and where all beings are awake, that is night for the sage who sees.

जो सब प्राणियों के लिए रात्रि है, उसमें संयमी पुरुष जागता है; और जिसमें सब प्राणी जागते हैं, वह तत्त्व को देखने वाले मुनि के लिए रात्रि है।
Commentary
A beautiful paradox. What most people are "awake" to — worldly gain, pleasure, status — the sage sleeps through, untroubled. What most people are asleep to — the self, the eternal — the sage is fully awake to. The two live in the same world but see it completely differently.
