व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिरेकेह कुरुनन्दन । बहुशाखा ह्यनन्ताश्च बुद्धयोऽव्यवसायिनाम् ॥ ४१ ॥
vyavasāyātmikā buddhir ekeha kuru-nandana bahu-śhākhā hyanantāśh cha buddhayo ’vyavasāyinām
Translation
On this path the resolute understanding is single-pointed, O joy of the Kurus; but the thoughts of the irresolute are many-branched and endless.

हे कुरुनंदन! इस मार्ग में निश्चयात्मक बुद्धि एक ही होती है; पर अस्थिर विचार वालों की बुद्धियाँ अनेक शाखाओं वाली और अनंत होती हैं।
Commentary
Vyavasāyātmikā buddhi — a decided, focused intellect — is contrasted with a mind that branches in every direction, chasing many goals. Focus is not only a practical skill here; it is a spiritual one. A scattered mind cannot hold to any path long enough to be transformed by it.
