देही नित्यमवध्योऽयं देहे सर्वस्य भारत । तस्मात्सर्वाणि भूतानि न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि ॥ ३० ॥
dehī nityam avadhyo ’yaṁ dehe sarvasya bhārata tasmāt sarvāṇi bhūtāni na tvaṁ śhochitum arhasi
Translation
The self dwelling in the body of every being is eternal and can never be slain, O descendant of Bharat. Therefore you should not grieve for any creature.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
हे भारत! सबके शरीर में रहने वाला यह देही (आत्मा) सदा अवध्य है। इसलिए तुम्हें किसी भी प्राणी के लिए शोक नहीं करना चाहिए।
Commentary
This verse closes the first line of argument — the nature of the self — which ran from verse 11. Note "sarvasya" and "sarvāṇi bhūtāni": the same eternal self dwells in every being, not only in humans or only in friends. That universality will later become the ground of compassion toward all.
