अन्तवन्त इमे देहा नित्यस्योक्ताः शरीरिणः । अनाशिनोऽप्रमेयस्य तस्माद्युध्यस्व भारत ॥ १८ ॥
antavanta ime dehā nityasyoktāḥ śharīriṇaḥ anāśhino ’prameyasya tasmād yudhyasva bhārata
Translation
These bodies of the eternal, indestructible and immeasurable embodied self are said to have an end. Therefore fight, O descendant of Bharat.

नित्य, अविनाशी और अप्रमेय देहधारी आत्मा के ये शरीर नाशवान कहे गए हैं। इसलिए हे भारत! युद्ध करो।
Commentary
The first "therefore fight" of the Gita. Krishna is not glorifying war; he is removing the specific reason Arjun gave for refusing — the belief that he would be destroying his loved ones. Bodies end; the self does not. The duty in front of Arjun must be judged on other grounds, which Krishna will supply from verse 31.
