श्रीभगवानुवाच । अशोच्यानन्वशोचस्त्वं प्रज्ञावादांश्च भाषसे । गतासूनगतासूंश्च नानुशोचन्ति पण्डिताः ॥ ११ ॥
śhrī bhagavān uvācha aśhochyān-anvaśhochas-tvaṁ prajñā-vādānśh cha bhāṣhase gatāsūn-agatāsūnśh-cha nānuśhochanti paṇḍitāḥ
Translation
The Blessed Lord said: You grieve for those who should not be grieved for, and yet you speak words of wisdom. The truly wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
श्रीभगवान बोले: तुम उनके लिए शोक करते हो जो शोक के योग्य नहीं, और फिर भी ज्ञान की बातें करते हो। ज्ञानी पुरुष न मृतकों के लिए शोक करते हैं, न जीवितों के लिए।
Commentary
Here the actual teaching of the Gita begins. Krishna points out a contradiction: Arjun has been quoting scripture about family and dharma, yet his grief shows he has missed the most basic truth — the nature of the self. The wise do not mourn "the dead or the living" because they see what in a person neither dies nor merely lives in the body.
