Then, O descendant of Bharat, Hrishikesh, as if smiling, spoke these words to the despairing Arjun between the two armies.

Commentary
Krishna's gentle smile (prahasann iva) is one of the loveliest details in the Gita. It is not mockery; it is the calm of someone who sees the whole picture while the other sees only a fragment. And the teaching is given "between the two armies" — in the middle of life's conflict, not in a quiet forest retreat.
