Translation

Worship of the gods, the twice-born, teachers and the wise; purity, straightforwardness, self-restraint and non-violence: this is called austerity of the body.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

Verses 14–16 give one of the Gita's most practical teachings: tapas, austerity, is threefold, of body, speech and mind. None of it involves self-torture. Bodily austerity is respect for the worthy, cleanliness, honesty, self-control (brahmacharya) and not harming others.
