Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 15, Verse 9

Purushottama Yoga

śhrotraṁ chakṣhuḥ sparśhanaṁ cha rasanaṁ ghrāṇam eva cha adhiṣhṭhāya manaśh chāyaṁ viṣhayān upasevate

Translation

Presiding over the ear, the eye, touch, taste and smell, and over the mind, it enjoys the objects of the senses.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

The soul uses the senses the way a person uses tools. Adhishthaya, "presiding over," is important: the soul is in charge of the senses, not the other way round, even though in daily life it often feels reversed.
