Bhagavad Gita — Chapter 14, Verse 10

Gunatraya Vibhaga Yoga

rajas tamaśh chābhibhūya sattvaṁ bhavati bhārata rajaḥ sattvaṁ tamaśh chaiva tamaḥ sattvaṁ rajas tathā

Translation

Sometimes sattva rises, overpowering rajas and tamas, O Bharat; sometimes rajas, overpowering sattva and tamas; and sometimes tamas, overpowering sattva and rajas.

Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)

Commentary

The gunas are not fixed labels for kinds of people. All three are present in everyone, competing for dominance, and the balance shifts through the day with food, company, activity and thought. This is why the Gita's advice is to notice the gunas, not to condemn oneself for them.
