चतुर्विधा भजन्ते मां जनाः सुकृतिनोऽर्जुन । आर्तो जिज्ञासुरर्थार्थी ज्ञानी च भरतर्षभ ॥ १६ ॥
chatur-vidhā bhajante māṁ janāḥ sukṛitino ’rjuna ārto jijñāsur arthārthī jñānī cha bharatarṣhabha
Translation
Four kinds of virtuous people worship me, Arjun: the distressed, the seeker of knowledge, the seeker of wealth, and the wise, O best of the Bharatas.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
हे भरतश्रेष्ठ अर्जुन! उत्तम कर्म वाले चार प्रकार के भक्त मुझे भजते हैं — आर्त (दुखी), जिज्ञासु, अर्थार्थी (धन चाहने वाला) और ज्ञानी।
Commentary
A wonderfully realistic list. People come to God in trouble (ārta), out of curiosity (jijñāsu), for worldly gain (arthārthī), or from wisdom (jñānī). All four are called sukṛitinaḥ — virtuous — simply for turning to God.
