अजोऽपि सन्नव्ययात्मा भूतानामीश्वरोऽपि सन् । प्रकृतिं स्वामधिष्ठाय सम्भवाम्यात्ममायया ॥ ६ ॥
ajo ’pi sannavyayātmā bhūtānām īśhvaro ’pi san prakṛitiṁ svām adhiṣhṭhāya sambhavāmyātma-māyayā
Translation
Though I am unborn and my nature is imperishable, and though I am the Lord of all beings, yet, governing my own nature, I come into being by my own power (maya).
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
मैं अजन्मा और अविनाशी स्वरूप होते हुए भी, तथा समस्त प्राणियों का ईश्वर होते हुए भी, अपनी प्रकृति को अधीन करके अपनी योगमाया से प्रकट होता हूँ।
Commentary
The key to the avatar: God does not take birth under compulsion, as we do through karma, but by his own will and power (ātma-māyā). He is unborn and yet appears — a paradox that Hindu devotion embraces rather than explains away.
