श्रीभगवानुवाच । बहूनि मे व्यतीतानि जन्मानि तव चार्जुन । तान्यहं वेद सर्वाणि न त्वं वेत्थ परन्तप ॥ ५ ॥
śhrī bhagavān uvācha bahūni me vyatītāni janmāni tava chārjuna tānyahaṁ veda sarvāṇi na tvaṁ vettha parantapa
Translation
The Blessed Lord said: Many births of mine have passed, and of yours too, Arjun. I know them all, but you do not, O scorcher of foes.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
श्रीभगवान बोले: हे परंतप अर्जुन! मेरे और तुम्हारे बहुत से जन्म हो चुके हैं। उन सबको मैं जानता हूँ, पर तुम नहीं जानते।
Commentary
Both Krishna and Arjun have had many births — but there is a difference. Arjun, like all of us, has forgotten; Krishna remembers everything. The difference is not in the fact of appearing but in the knowledge and freedom with which one appears.
