यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः । तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर ॥ ९ ॥
yajñārthāt karmaṇo ’nyatra loko ’yaṁ karma-bandhanaḥ tad-arthaṁ karma kaunteya mukta-saṅgaḥ samāchara
Translation
Except for action done as yajna (an offering), this world is bound by action. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform action for that purpose, free from attachment.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
यज्ञ (ईश्वरार्पण) के लिए किए जाने वाले कर्मों के अतिरिक्त अन्य कर्मों से यह संसार बँधता है। इसलिए हे कौन्तेय! आसक्ति से रहित होकर उसी के लिए भली-भाँति कर्म करो।
Commentary
The key to action that does not bind: do it as yajna — an offering, not a transaction for oneself. Yajna here widens beyond fire rituals to any work done for a higher purpose. This idea runs through the rest of the chapter.
