dūreṇa hy-avaraṁ karma buddhi-yogād dhanañjaya buddhau śharaṇam anvichchha kṛipaṇāḥ phala-hetavaḥ
Translation
Action done for its fruits is far inferior to action done with the yoga of understanding, O Dhananjay. Seek refuge in that understanding; pitiable are those whose motive is the fruit.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
Commentary
Krishna uses the word kṛipaṇa — miserly or pitiable — for those who act only for rewards. The irony is that such people think they are gaining, but they are poor: their peace depends on outcomes they cannot control. Arjun himself had used the same root (kārpaṇya) for his condition in verse 7.
